What to do
Call/text me when the baby arrives 608-445-4588. I come to the hospital, usually within hours of your call/text to pick up the placenta. I prepare the placenta at home and deliver it back to you usually before you are discharged, if not; I will bring it to your house or we can discuss an appropriate meeting place.
If I cannot get to you within three hours of the birth, the placenta needs to be on ice. You can obtain ice at the hospital. If the placenta will be with you overnight please check the ice periodically to ensure there is always at least one full cube. This way you know the water remains at an appropriate temperature to maintain the integrity of the placenta.
You do not need to bring any extra supplies along. The hospital will provide the ice, bucket and bag.

At this time, I do not require any verification of finances but rather trust that families will honor the service offered and the commitment of Madison Placenta Services to make this option accessible to all families. By families who can pay more doing so, Madison Placenta Services can continue to offer this service at a discounted rate for those who cannot afford the full non-discounted fee.
If $175 is impossible due to your financial situation, please discuss with me further to see if a further discount is possible. Bartering for goods or services, which are of value or of use to me, may also be an option for all clients.
I understand that this can be uncomfortable for some families. Please know that I make no judgments about where families place themselves on this scale. I trust that families will do what is best for them, in turn, for this service and community we all share.

Mother's Broth - The perfect cocktail to celebrate the transition into mama-hood.

Mother’s Placenta Broth is a natural by-product of the placenta steaming process and is very beneficial to consume. Clients often refer to it as “miracle soup”!! Made of mostly water, this broth does contain the essence of the placenta (especially hormones and iron) and Traditional Chinese Medicine “warming” herbs. Placenta broth is akin to the nutrient-rich vegetable water that remains after vegetables are steamed and is why so many people keep vegetable broth to water houseplants.
Though many women are hesitant to drink placenta broth, there is no reason to be! Similar to placenta pills, the broth is good for a new mother’s body and a perfect tonic for the postpartum period. Put a few teaspoons or tablespoons into a drink (tea, coffee, juice, even root beer!), a stew, or even drink it straight out of the cup. You can drink as much as you would like, and there is no limit of intake per sitting.
This “miracle soup” is powerfully concentrated in the mother’s own hormones and iron.
I offer this nutrient-dense liquid at no additional charge. The broth has been proven to be useful by many a new mother and is extremely powerful, yet perishable. Like any other natural broth, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you aren’t sure about drinking it within a 3 day period, the broth may be placed in an ice cube tray to be frozen. The cubes can then be popped out, placed in a zip bag and used one or two at a time in tea, soup, stew, etc. as you need them.
Some women take advantage of this broth, while others prefer to only take the capsules. If you prefer not drink the broth, you can offer it to your children, husband, favorite pet or to use as a wonderful plant food.

Placenta Capsules

Vegetarian capsules are used for all placentas at no additional fee. The capsules can either be prepared fresh or steamed. In both preparations the capsules are dried. In fresh prep the steaming process is omitted and generally you receive more capsules then the standard preparation. With fresh prep the broth would not be available as this is gathered from the steaming process. All capsules will be prepared according to Traditional Chinese Medicine unless you specifically request the fresh prep. There is no additional fee if you choose the fresh preparation.
